Berkey Light, by New Millennium Concepts, is designed for everyday use and is ideal in situations where a reliable supply of treated drinking water becomes unavailable.

This elegant system is constructed of transparent Lexan, making it hygienic, durable, and easy to clean and refill. The upper chamber of the two piece housing is filled with water which gravity feeds through the filters into the lower chamber.

The 2 included filter elements have micro-pores so small that harmful pathogenic bacteria cannot pass through them (such as E-coli, Cholera Salmonella Typhi, Giardia and Cryptosporidium). The filters also remove and reduce unwanted chemicals such as Chlorine, lead, rust, sediment, pesticides, herbicides, organic solvents, VOCs, SOCs, Trihalomethanes, and foul tastes and odors. The included durable and efficient water filters, called Black Berkey, last for up to 3,000 gallons each and can be cleaned as needed with a toothbrush.

Often it is desirable to refill the upper chamber while some of the water from the previous cycle remains in the lower chamber. With non-transparent or opaque systems the upper chamber must be removed from the lower chamber. This is inconvenient and messy because water continues to drip from the filter elements as the user checks for water levels in the lower chamber. This is especially difficult in no or low light conditions. If the user does not check the water level there is a risk that the upper chamber will be overfilled and later cause the lower chamber to overflow. KDF Berkey Shower Filter

The Shower Filter That Protects You from Poisonous Gases

This Berkey Shower Filter contains KDF 55 granules, which are most effective in removing or reducing chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, microorganisms, scale and water-soluble heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and iron. KDF process media also kill bacteria and inhibit the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungi. As an added benefit, KDF media reduce lime scale, mold, and fungi in your shower. KDF process media are completely safe so the process is not toxic and does not cause any adverse side effects.

In the shower environment, chlorine can either be in liquid or gas state. At higher water temperatures in the enclosed shower stall, free-chlorine moves from the liquid to the gas state, where it vaporizes and subsequently is inhaled. The United States regulates all showerhead flow at 2.5 gallons per minute. Thus, the science behind shower filtration must take into account the unique situation in the shower, including temperature, flow rate and volume.

Our Dual Media KDF Shower Filter works on a similar principle to a Catalytic Converter in an automobile. In shower filtration free-chlorine is converted into a harmless chloride. The scientific name for this chemical reaction is known as "Reduction-Oxidation", commonly referred to as Redox. Redox reactions can be chemically complex. Simply stated, during a Redox reaction electrons are transferred between molecules, creating new elements. For instance, when free-chlorine comes in contact with the filtration media, it is changed into a benign, water-soluble chloride. This reaction changes free-chlorine to a larger chloride element, too large to evaporate or be absorbed by the skin. It is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. Hospitals, restaurants, municipal water treatment facilities, and homes rely on KDF process media to safely reduce or remove free chlorine, iron, iron oxides, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide and bacteria from their water.

KDF process media are high-purity copper-zinc formulations used in treatment applications to reduce heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide, microorganisms, and scale. Water filtered through redox media controls microorganism growth. Treating water reduces bacteria and other microorganisms by electron transport, causing cellular damage. KDF process media also kill bacteria by direct electrochemical contact and by the flash formation hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide, both of which interfere with a microorganism's ability to function. High-purity copper-zinc redox media consistently remove 99% of free chlorine by electrochemically reducing dissolved chlorine gas to water-soluble chloride ions.

Redox media remove up to 98% of water-soluble cations (positively-charged ions) of lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. When filtered through KDF media, soluble lead cations are reduced to insoluble lead atoms, which are electroplated onto the surface of the media. All forms of KDF media are guaranteed for product purity, and a certified analytical sheet accompanies each manufacturing run. KDF media also meet EPA and Food and Drug Administration standards for maximum limits of zinc and copper in potable water.

Care and Use

Fill the Sport Berkey Portable Water Purifier with water, screw on cap and tighten securely to eliminate leaks. Flush water through filter by pulling down lever, so that straw is exposed, and squeeze water through filter and out the straw. Repeat this flushing process twice before drinking. This removes excess process dust from the filter. After 2 flushes, rinse the bottle & cap. Your filter bottle is now ready for use. Enjoy!

Maintenance and Storage

The Sport Berkey Portable Water Purifier has a shelf life of 50 years. When the filter system will not be used for an extended period, flush the unit with a chlorinated solution of 1/4 tsp. per one half gallon of water. Allow to dry thoroughly with bottom cap removed. Re-assemble and stow. Do not allow filter to freeze, do not place in microwave oven and do not run hot water through the filter.
